Would I Benefit From Seeing a Psychotherapist?
All of us encounter uncomfortable feelings at some point or another within our lives. A number of emotions such as melancholy, hopelessness, anxiety and stress commonly occur as a part of normal life. As an example, it is quite normal to experience anxiety and stress prior to a performance or an exam.
Where this can be a problem is when these emotions overwhelm you so much that it becomes challenging for you to perform normally in your daily life. If you are nervous, tearful, have eating issues, insomnia problems, have poor attention, are lacking direction, have very low energy and enthusiasm, are drinking alcohol or using drugs to the extreme, have persistent low mood, having difficulty managing your temper or getting along with people, then you ought to very seriously think about visiting a psychotherapist.

How many sessions will I need?
Given that everybody is different this can be a really difficult question to answer without conversing with you in far more depth. For short-term brief therapy dealing with a particular issue, you can expect to need to budget for between 6 to 12 sessions. For more deep rooted, life-long, chronic, or challenging problems needing longer term psychotherapy and counselling, a lot more sessions will of course be required. Sessions typically take place weekly, however this may be negotiated to suit your own circumstances. After our initial consultation I will have a lot better sense of both you and the problems you need to work on, and will be in a position to provide you with a better estimate.
