For many people, the most successful solution will often involve a combination of therapeutic approaches. As an integrative psychotherapist I flexibly adjust my approach to suit your current stage in the therapy process and the particular part of the problem we are working on at the time.
Brief Therapies (Short-term psychotherapy and counselling, EMDR, CBT, NLP, Clinical Hypnotherapy)
(The entire treatment typically lasts anywhere between 6 to 16 weekly sessions)
Brief therapy is highly focused on finding specific solutions to very specific problems and tends to be much more outcome focused. For very specific issues, brief therapy can be much better value financially due to its highly focused approach and shorter overall treatment duration. However if you have life-long or long-term chronic problems, or multiple complex issues then longer term psychotherapy and counselling may be a better choice (see below). The higher fee for the brief therapies reflect the relatively short duration of the entire treatment process, especially when compare to the length of time (sometimes many months to years) usually needed for some longer-term psychotherapy and counselling.
Mid to long-term Psychotherapy and Counselling Sessions
(Typically requires a commitment to a number of months of regular weekly sessions)
Particularly suitable for life-long or long-term chronic problems, or multiple complex issues. Results in much broader and deeper insights and personal change and growth, but does require a much longer term commitment to the therapy process. The range of benefits that people gain from longer term psychotherapy and counselling often go way beyond the initial problem that first brought them to therapy.
Contemporary Psychotherapy and Counselling
Psychotherapy is the treatment of emotional and behavioural problems by psychological techniques designed to encourage communication of conflicts and insight into problems, with the goal being relief of symptoms, changes in behavior leading to improved social and vocational functioning, and personality growth. Due to its adaptable nature Contemporary Psychotherapy is suitable for use both as a brief therapy and also as longer term psychotherapy.
Contemporary Psychotherapy is an Integrative Outcome Oriented approach that organically facilitates recovery, growth and healing. It is an approach to psychotherapy that integrates concepts from some of the most successful aspects of many forms of psychotherapy and counselling to produce an approach which can be both highly effective and brief.
CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is a widely used talking therapy originally designed to treat depression. It focuses on changing unhelpful patterns in cognitions and behaviours by developing personal coping strategies that target current problems. It is now used for a wide variety of mental health conditions.
EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a well researched psychological therapy originally used to treat PTSD. It has also been found to be effective in the treatment of other conditions that involve psychological trauma, such as anxiety, phobias, excessive grief, developmental trauma, somatic disorders, and pain management.
It is not considered to be a talking therapy as it processes past distressing memories, current triggers and future concerns using sets of eye movements (or alternating bilateral stimulation such as taps or auditory tones).
